Akron Municipal Court Sets Star Wars Themed Weddings for Wednesday, May 4
03/23/2022

“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…” the Akron Municipal Court had an idea to host weddings for couples who love all things Star Wars!

Akron Municipal Court Administrative/Presiding Judge Ron Cable will officiate Star Wars themed weddings on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at the Highland Square Theatre in Akron. May 4, or “May the Fourth Be With You” is known internationally as Star Wars Day. Weddings will take place from 10:00 a.m. until Noon.

Costumes and Star Wars attire are welcome.

The Highland Theatre, a “jewel” in Akron’s Highland Square, is a neighborhood theatre in an area of eclectic shops, bars and restaurants. Established in 1938, the 10,000 square foot theatre seats over 600 patrons.

The Highland Theatre is located at 826 W. Market St. in Akron. Free parking is available across the Street (behind Huntington Bank and Chipotle).

Appointments are first-come, first-served and must be scheduled and paid for before the date of the ceremony. Time slots will not be added once all appointments are booked.

Prior to the ceremony, couples must obtain a marriage license from Summit County Probate Court. They then must pay a cash-only ceremony fee at the Akron Municipal Court in the Harold K. Stubbs Justice Center, located at 217 S. High St. in Downtown Akron between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The fee is $25 for those in the court’s jurisdiction, Akron, Fairlawn, Bath, Richfield, Springfield Township, Lakemore and the Summit County portion of Mogadore. There is a $40 fee for those residing outside the jurisdiction.

It is suggested to contact the Akron Municipal Court’s Chief Service Bailiff Patricia Williams at (330) 375-2592 to ensure space is still available before obtaining a marriage license or for any further questions regarding scheduling.

The Akron Municipal Court is hosting weddings at Jilly’s Music Room on April 1, 2022 but no available time slots remain. Summer wedding dates and venues will be announced mid-April.
